Volunteers

Volunteers are at the heart of ETC's work.

Because of the contributions of volunteers’ time, talent, and expertise, ETC is able to provide diverse offerings for teachers and students that we all value so highly.

Volunteering will allow you to:

  • Give back to the Latin community
  • Shape future education trends and issues
  • Broaden your network and build lasting connections with other educators
  • Enhance your leadership and technology skills

We are seeking to build an energetic, inclusive, and innovative group of volunteer leaders.

Review Current Opportunities

We have several new volunteer opportunities working with our Resource and Contest Coordinators. As opportunities become available, they will be added to the list below.

SCRIBO Writing Contest

SCRIBO is a Latin composition contest, designed to spur interest and excitement in using Latin for creative writing, to honor and recognize top work in Latin creative writing and to ultimately publish student work. Specifically, we need volunteers who are willing to assist with reviewing and grading Latin composition entries between March and May. The time commitment varies during the year, but at the most demanding time, the commitment is 1-2 hours a week.

Program Committee

The Program Committee organizes all of ETC's Institute offerings, such as ETC's Open Meeting, ETC's Institute Session, MSC Roundtable, MSC Pre-Institute Session, and the virtual or physical table in the exhibitor hall. In addition to supporting programming at the Institute, the Program Committee explores other opportunities for virtual programming throughout the year. Committee members plan, organize, and facilitate two minor virtual events and one hybrid event throughout the year, culminating in ACL Institute in June. The time commitment varies during the year, but at the most demanding time, the commitment is 1-2 hours a week.

Awards Committee

The Awards Committee meets periodically throughout the year to review applications for ACL professional grants, Calliope Award, Petrino Award, and other specific grants that are awarded by ETC. Committee members review all applications to determine how funds are allotted. The time commitment varies during the year, but at the most demanding time, the commitment is 1-2 hours a week.
